Many of you (fall marathoners, summer long runners, SA half marathoners and Basic Training runners) will be participating in the Birds Run tomorrow morning – anywhere from 6 to 20 miles, passing anywhere from 2 to 4 Birds Barbershop locations. Afterward, Birds is treating our runners to an after-party of sorts, featuring ice cold Sweet Leaf Tea and sample Ashiatsu massage from Massage Harmony. If you took the time to read Rogue’s August newsletter, you would’ve seen the valuable coupons from both Birds and Massage Harmony included. Hopefully you’re planning to take advantage of the discounts and support these local businesses – here is a bit more information about each of them:
Birds Barbershop is an independently-owned brand of barbershops founded in Austin, Texas by amateur triathlete Jayson Rapaport, a former Rogue participant. Rapaport opened his first shop with partner Michael Portman in 2006 with a goal of offering affordable salon quality for both men and women in a casual, rock club environment. They now co-own four shops in town, each built around a large-scale mural by a local artist, and a free Lone Star with every cut. For the second year in a row, Elle magazine has named Birds on of the top 100 salons in America. For more info, please visit http://www.birdsbarbershop.com

Massage Harmony – a locally owned and operated spa offering the most affordable massages in Austin – has officially launched its Ashiatsu Bar Therapy program with four new rooms devoted to the modality and six trained therapists for Capitol City residents. The spa will be offering Ashiatsu massages, which lives up to its reputation as “the deepest, most luxurious massage on the planet,” at the introductory rate of $44 for a 60-minute session (free sample Ashiatsu massages will available after the Birds Run in the S. Congress parking lot to Rogue Runners).
Massage Harmony, named in honor of Austin’s local music scene, also differentiates itself from competitors by not requiring clients to purchase a membership in order to take advantage of its low rates. First time visitors can enjoy a $34 introductory rate for a 60-minute massage (regularly $44). The 90-minute massages are available for $54 introductory rate (regularly $64). Discounts are available for the purchase of multiple massages and gift certificates are available.
